ODST multiplayer question?

Ok I've always been a Gears Of War type of gamer and only play the HALO franchise on campaign. This time I wanted to try ODST firefight. Is there another way to play with random people to start a match in ODST firefight like Horde in GOW? bec it looks like you can only play with your friends or recent players.
