Autorun.inf virus taking up USB space?

How do I get rid of it? It's preventing the freeing up of space on my USB. There's a file called autorun.inf. I'm using a mac but when I plug the usb into library computers, the antirvirus quarantines or deletes it but reappears. How do I get rid of it without having to continuously reformat my USB?
